The work
Testing the supply found four separate problems: sediment, coliform bacteria, hardness, and a pH low enough to count as acidic. That combination is common on well water in this part of Maryland, and no single appliance addresses all of it.
So the system was specified from the results rather than off a shelf. A sediment filter takes out particles and clears the water. A neutralizer filled with calcite mineral raises the pH back to a safe 7 and stops the acidity working on copper. A micron filter catches what is left before the last stage, and a UV light kills the microorganisms the bacteria test found.
It was an all-day job. The result is treated water at every tap and a plumbing system no longer being worn from the inside by its own supply.
