Grease Trap Service in Gaithersburg

Grease trap service in Gaithersburg

For a restaurant, the grease trap is a health-code item before it is a plumbing one. It catches the fats, oils and grease — FOG, in the trade — that go down the kitchen drain and would otherwise set solid in the line and in the public sewer.

Mallick provides grease trap installation, cleaning, repair, maintenance and replacement across Gaithersburg and Maryland, for restaurants and food-preparation businesses.

Worth Knowing

How a grease trap works

A grease trap, or grease interceptor, is a tank the kitchen's wastewater passes through on the way out. Inside, it separates by weight: solid food settles to the bottom, fats and oils float to the top, and the effluent wastewater in the middle passes safely on to the sewer.

It works well, and it works only until the layers fill the tank. At that point FOG carries straight through into the line — which is the failure everybody eventually sees as a blocked kitchen drain rather than as a trap that was overdue.

Project control

How a grease trap job runs

The consequences of a neglected trap are worse than a blockage, which is why health codes treat it seriously. A trap that is not maintained produces bad odours through the kitchen, clogs the drain line, creates a genuine health hazard, and in the worst case contributes to a kitchen fire.

A trap failure can force a kitchen to close during service. Regular cleaning helps prevent that interruption.

01

Interval set to you

Interval set to your actual trade volume rather than a generic schedule — a busy kitchen fills a trap far faster.

02

Cleaned properly

Trap cleaned out fully, so FOG is removed rather than reduced to below the visible line.

03

Inspected while open

Inspected while open to identify developing faults.

04

Repairs planned, not forced

Any repair scheduled at your convenience while it is still small, rather than arriving as a shutdown.

Worth Knowing

Cleaning is also the inspection

Cleaning frequency depends on trade volume — a busy kitchen fills a trap far faster than a small one, and the interval should be set to the business rather than to a calendar.

The cleaning visit is also the natural moment to inspect. With the trap open we can check for problems that are starting rather than finished, which means a repair can be scheduled at your convenience while it is still small, instead of arriving as a shutdown.

  • Abbas came to our house for an emergency repair on a Saturday.

He was courteous and kind, he didn’t rush, and he worked hard to fix our problem and thoroughly investigate. It was hard to find a plumber who could do this on a Saturday at the last minute, and we appreciated Mallick’s and Abbas’s willingness.

Grease Trap Questions, Answered

Talk To A Plumber

Someone picks up 24/7 — nights, weekends, and holidays included.

How often does a grease trap need cleaning?

It depends on trade volume rather than the calendar — a busy kitchen fills a trap much faster than a quiet one. We set the interval to your actual throughput, because a trap cleaned on a generic schedule is either failing early or being cleaned more often than it needs.

What happens if a grease trap is not maintained?

Bad odours through the kitchen, clogs in the drain line, a genuine health hazard, health-code problems, and in the worst case a contribution to a kitchen fire. Most of these present suddenly, and usually as a kitchen that has to stop during service.

How does a grease trap actually work?

Kitchen wastewater passes through a tank where it separates by weight: solids settle to the bottom, fats and oils float to the top, and the effluent between them passes on to the sewer. When the layers fill the tank, grease carries straight through into your line.

Do you install traps as well as clean them?

Yes — installation for a new kitchen or fit-out, plus repair, maintenance and replacement. Because cleaning visits include an inspection, problems are usually found while they can still be scheduled rather than as an emergency.
