What should I do if I have a burst pipe?
Turn off the main water supply first — every minute it runs is more damage. If water is anywhere near outlets or wiring, shut the electricity off at the panel too. Then call a licensed plumber. Do not wait for business hours; we run 24/7 emergency service across Montgomery, Carroll, Howard and Frederick Counties and parts of NW Washington DC.
Why is my water pressure suddenly low?
Usually mineral buildup, a leak somewhere in the line, corroded pipe narrowing from the inside, or a failing pressure reducing valve. Occasionally it is the municipal supply and nothing to do with your house at all. The diagnosis matters, because three of those are repairs and one of them is not your problem to fix.
How can I prevent clogged drains?
Keep grease, coffee grounds and food scraps out of the kitchen drain and hair out of the shower drain — those three account for most of what we pull out. Drain screens help catch debris before it enters the pipe. If a drain has needed clearing more than once in a year, something structural is going on and it is worth a camera inspection rather than another plunger.
Do I need a permit for plumbing work in Montgomery County?
In Montgomery and Prince George's County, plumbing and gas permits come from WSSC Water rather than the county permitting office, and gas appliance work cannot legally be done by the homeowner — it has to be a WSSC-licensed plumber or gasfitter. We pull the permit and arrange the inspection as part of the job.
